Pedometer Development Utilizing an Accelerometer Sensor

چکیده
This paper develops a pedometer with a three-axis acceleration sensor that can be placed with any angle. The proposed pedometer measures the number of steps while users walk, jog or run. It can be worn on users’ waistband or placed within pocket or backpack. The work address to improve on the general pedometers, which can only be used in a single direction or can only count of steps without the continuous exercise judgment mechanism. Finally, experimental results confirm the superior performance of the proposed pedometer. Keywords—Accelerometer sensor, Angle estimation, Pedometer.

A Comparison of Two Motion Sensors for the Assessment of Free-Living Physical Activity of Adolescents
This study assessed and compared the daily step counts recorded by two different motion sensors in order to estimate the free-living physical activity of 135 adolescent girls. Each girl concurrently wore a Yamax pedometer and an ActiGraph accelerometer (criterion measure) every day for seven consecutive days. The convergent validity of the pedometer can be considered intermediate when used to m...
متن کاملAccuracy of a Pedometer and an Accelerometer in Women with Obesity
Aim: The main purpose of this study was to examine the accuracy of a specific pedometer (Silva model Pedometer Plus 56013-3) and accelerometer (Silva model Ex3 plus 56026) in women suffering from obesity. The second aim was to study the impact of BMI, waist and hip circumference and waist-hip ratio on different pedometer and accelerometer positions on the body. Methods: Forty women with a BMI >...
متن کاملAgreement between pedometer and accelerometer in measuring physical activity in overweight and obese pregnant women
BACKGROUND Inexpensive, reliable objective methods are needed to measure physical activity (PA) in large scale trials. This study compared the number of pedometer step counts with accelerometer data in pregnant women in free-living conditions to assess agreement between these measures. METHODS Pregnant women (n = 58) with body mass index ≥25 kg/m(2) at median 13 weeks' gestation wore a GT1M A...
متن کاملComparisons of accelerometer and pedometer determined steps in free living samples.
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to compare steps·d-1 between an accelerometer and pedometer in 2 free-living samples. METHODS Data from 2 separate studies were used for this secondary analysis (Sample 1: N = 99, Male: n = 28, 20.9 ± 1.4 yrs, BMI = 27.2 ± 5.0 kg·m-2, Female: n = 71, 20.9 ± 1.7 yrs, BMI = 22.7 ± 3.0 kg·m-2; Sample 2: N = 74, Male: n = 27, 38.0 ± 9.5 yrs, BMI = 25.7 ± 4...
متن کاملA Decision Tree Based Pedometer and Its Implementation on the Android Platform
This paper describes a decision tree (DT) based pedometer algorithm and its implementation on Android. The DTbased pedometer can classify 3 gait patterns, including walking on level ground (WLG), up stairs (WUS) and down stairs (WDS). It can discard irrelevant motion and count user’s steps accurately. The overall classification accuracy is 89.4%. Accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetic field sens...
